How the ml to oz conversion works
This is secretly a cooking conversion as much as a science one: it's the math behind reading a European recipe, a skincare bottle, or a water bottle label against the US fluid ounce measurements on your own measuring cup. The US fluid ounce is defined as exactly 29.5735295625 milliliters, so converting between the two is precise arithmetic, not a rough estimate. Everything below, the chart, the common bottle sizes, the formula, uses that exact figure; the only rounding happens when the answer is displayed to two decimal places.
The formula
Here milliliters is the metric volume you are converting from, and US fl oz is the US customary fluid ounce used on American recipes, measuring cups, and nutrition labels. Divide by 29.5735295625 to get ounces from milliliters; multiply by it to go back.
Worked example
750 ml to oz: 750 ÷ 29.5735295625 = 25.36 US fl oz. That's a standard wine bottle, which is why "750" and "25.4 oz" both show up on the same label.
12 oz to ml: 12 × 29.5735295625 = 354.88 ml, rounded up to the 355 ml printed on a standard soda can.
One honest caveat: US ounces are not UK ounces
The US fluid ounce used throughout this page is 29.5735295625 ml. The UK imperial fluid ounce, still printed on some British and Commonwealth recipes and bottles, is 28.4131 ml, about 4 percent smaller. Mixing the two up is a real source of recipe and dosing errors, so if a label or recipe says "fl oz" and doesn't specify which, check the country of origin before trusting a straight ounce-for-ounce swap.
